This is a test which measures progesterone levels, once a certain level is reached the eggs are released (ovulation)and the eggs are then only fertile for four days.
Progesterone is vital in sustaining a pregnancy to the full 63 day term. If levels drop below 10ng during term the pregnancy will fail unless supplemented.
At around 63 days from the point of ovulation progesterone levels drop to below 2ng which is when labour begins-
This is called a reverse progesterone test
C-sections are only safe once progesterone drops below 3ng!
Blood samples can be taken by your local vet and either posted to us or you can bring it here yourself
*the majority ovulate between
days 12 -18 but some go earlier so we recommend start testing from day 10 but if blood lightens before that then a test may be needed as you may have missed the start of season and not have her correct days.
Sperm analysis
Sperm is most commonly checked in young males before they can be used at stud, and then with regular checkups.
we check concentration, motility and also longevity in refrigeration to make sure the sperm is able to withstand being chilled for up to 7 days before being shipped any where in the world
Ultrasound scanning
For pregnancy’s we recommend scanning between day 23 to 35 to be able to count accurately, at the same time we also check for heartbeats and relative fetal size, scanning is also usefull after natural birth if you are unsure if all pups have been born. This service is also available for cats
Stud dog handling
You can bring along your stud dog for an assisted natural mating with your clients bitch if they are having trouble mating.
Puppy / kitten Microchipping
It is mandatory for all puppies to be microchipped and registered by the time they are 8 weeks old. It is recommended that they are implanted after 6 weeks of age.
This service is also available for cats/kittens
and Under the new plans, all keepers of cats/kittens must ensure their pet is microchipped before they reach the age of 20 weeks and their contact details stored and kept up to date in a pet microchipping database. Owners found not to have microchipped their cat will have 21 days to have one implanted, or may face a fine of up to £500.
Chilled semen preparation
We can collect and prepare semen for chilling whether it be for storage for insemination up to 8 days later or for sending by courier to another location, if you have a stud dog who is over booked it’s possible to collect semen days before and store it for 2 inseminations ideally within 5 days and only need to collect from him one more time inseminating half and storing the other half for insemination 2 days later, giving you four inseminations from only two collections made days apart giving time to replenish and increase sperm count. If your stud has a very high count along with quality it is possible to divide up to 5 from one collection
Whelping assistance
natural births don’t always go smoothly and pups can often get stuck on the way out and depending on the reason why they are stuck there are different techniques that can be used to get them out which we can assist with, we have delivered countless pups/litters over the years and have learned many ways of getting them out without the need for surgery.

Puppy care
Sometimes puppies need hand feeding, this can be for many reasons, but if not done correctly can cause aspiration pneumonia from choking on milk. Bottle feeding is the easiest way but it’s important to get the right one with the right teat size
syringe feeding can be very dangerous if milk just runs down the neck increasing the risk of aspiration pneumonia
There are various other problems which you may encounter while your litter matures,
